A Relative’s Visa may be issued to the immediate family member, within the second step of kinship, of a South African citizen or permanent resident for a period of up to 2 years at a time.
This includes children, a spouse, parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters. The visa only entitles the holder to residence in South Africa; it does not allow for any other activities, such as work, study or self-employment.
Except in the case of a dependent child, it is necessary for the South African citizen/permanent resident relative to provide financial assurance in respect of the foreign relative and prove, by means of a salary advice/payslip or certified bank statement which is not older than 3 months, that he/she has at least R8500.00 available per month to support the foreign relative. This amount applies per relative.
